Smokey Sun (June 6, 2011)

At 5:22 P.M. the sun was blood red to look at.
The camera did not pick it up the way we were looking at it,
but you can still see the red haze from the smoke.
The smoke is coming from the fires in Arizona,
around Flagstaff area,
and it is about a 4-5 hour drive from Albuquerque.
(About 200 miles from here.)

At 6:22 P.M. the smoke in the sky was a little thicker,
and you could see the red sun through the camera better.
This is a picture taken without the flash.  This is the actual
color of the sky as we see it.

This picture was taken at 6:23 P.M. and it is with a flash.
This fire has burned about 240,000 acres in Arizona, and has
not been contained because of how hot and dry, and windy.
The fire fighters can't get to the hot flames.

Payson and Addi-Belle are looking at the red sun.
This may be a once in a life time experience, so
we thought we would put it in their photo files.
