GOOD FRIDA (part one)

Friday, April 6,  2012 was Good Friday.  That means
school is out in New Mexico, and as luck would have it,
Ma also had her scheduled day of on that weekend.  That means
Orion, Pa and Ma all had a day off together, and so they decided
they would have a Holiday together.  For the Holiday we all
went to the New Mexico Museum of Natural History.

This Dinosaur is so awesome.  It is set up to look
exactly like the one on "Night at the Museum"
Having a model like this really brings the
dinosaur to life.

Orion's hand is certainly small compared to this
dinosaur's foot print.
Tyrannosaurus Track

This dinosaurs is so big, it's entire leg
is the size of the height of the wall.
Orion is peeking through
the opening in the lower bone.

The photo showing where on the dinosaur
the bone belongs.

After we went to see all the dinosaurs,
we went to see a 3-D movie at the I-MAX
called "Sea Rex"
which is about dinosaur fish.

The double event ticket.

Orion wearing the 3-D glasses.
These glasses were amazing.  They
are the best ones Ma has ever used.
We could not keep them, the I-MAX theather
reuses them.  They are not like the cheaper
ones that you get at the movie theaters.

ART MERIT BADGE for Scouts

Orion picked the Art project in earning his merit badge.
Tonight, April 3, 2012 was the first of three nights.
It was fun.  The instructor is John Berger, and John
is a professional artist.  He does wood carvings etc for profit.

The first project John Berger gave the boys
was to make a comic strip.  They had to make up their own.
They had to make nine squares, and each square
had to tell the story from beginning to end.

This is Orion first making a scratch sketching,
and then he is supposed to make
the final drawings on this larger paper
Then the second project tonight was
to design a logo.  John Berger said that it could
be anything you choose.  He showed some
examples of business logos,
and he showed a personal logo with his initials.
Orion designed this one with his initials on it.

He definitely needed a yellow shirt.
Yellow is Orion's favorite color.

STAR PARTY

The Arroyo Del Oso Elementary school was having a very special
night on March 28,  2012.  They were having a Star Party.  Included in
the party were some very large telescopes for everyone to view the
moon, Jupiter, Venus and Mars which were very visible on this night.
The moon, Jupiter and Venus were in the west,  Mars was the red star
in the east.
Orion looking at Venus or Jupiter in the west
You can move the telescope and right now,
Venus and Jupiter are near each other.

This one is looking at the moon.
There is a place where two people can view.
This is so the instructor of the telescope
can see what you see.  That way,
if the lens gets moved, she can
put it back into place.

The moon as seen throught the telescope.
The moon seen by Ma's camera,
with Venus below.
(Jupiter is also below, but
it is hard to see in the photo.)

This telescope is looking at Mars in the east.
There were activities in the forth grade classrooms as well.
There were some craft projects etc, but
Orion wanted to go hear this teacher
talk about the solor system.

Some of the things he explained about
were about soil of the earth in comparison
to the moon or planets.

We were able to see a live Planetarium
First you crawl into the tunnel, and
then everyone sits on the floor.
All the lights go off, and there is a
lantern that shows little dots all over the ceiling.
These are the stars in the night time sky.
The instructor told us where all the
constellations were, as well as the planets.
Here is a spring time diagram of some
of the things that were mentioned.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JACEN

March 28,  2012 was Jacen's Birthday.  We did not hear of anything
going on such as a Birthday Party, but we wanted to make certain
that we were able to give Jacen a special visit from all of us. Jacen
turned 6 years old today.
We did not have time to wrap the gifts,
so we just handed them to Jacen.
Orion could not wait.  He gave Jacen
the gift that was from him before we even
got inside the apartment.
A football for playing catch.

Jack came and gave Pa a very large greeting.

Jacen holding his gifts from us.
Jacen asked for a Red Comforter.
Pa and Ma went to 5 different stores
to find a twin size red comforter.
Orion gave him the football,
and Ma and Pa were a little late
and he is holding his Valentines as well.

Jack holding his Valentines too.
I guess bringing the Valentines late might
have been a good idea after all.  Jack was very
happy to be getting something as well.
Inside the Valentines is a Microwave Popcorn.

Jacen can play catch with his football,
but that did not stop Jack from playing  catch
with his Valentine.

Spring Blossoms

We are getting such beautiful spring blossoms on the trees
right now.  Ma thought it would be a great idea to get some
pretty spring time photos of Orion.
These are Ma's favorite spring time tree blossoms.
The pink ones.

Orion wanted to get a photo with all three trees

A closer view.
On the way going home,
Ma and Orion found another beautiful spot.
The pink blossoms mixed with yellow.
Now for the photos Orion took.

Pa stayed home.
Orion thought is was fun to find pretty spring
blossoms and take our photos, so he
suggested another spot.

Orion:  I know another place with spring flowers.
Ma:  You do?
Orion: Yep.  Go Right, go straight, go left.
Ma:  Orion this is Lowes.
Orion:  It has pretty spring flowers.

Orion and Scouts with first aid

Scouts was teaching a special lesson on First Aid this time.
Linda Thompson, who is a school nurse at La Cueva High School
was the special invited teacher for this one.  She even brought along
some equipment for the boys to practice on.
