front of the sun was going to be the most visible. Everyone here was anxiously
waiting for the event. It was going to be between 7:32 and 7:38 PM
on May 20, 2012.
People in the neighborhood went outside to see the eclipse.
Ma tried to see if her camera could take a
photo of the sun.
It would not. She tried an experiment,
and it worked.....well sort of.
It would not focus very well, but she DID get
one photo to focus. It turned out great.
This is taken through a double layer of black trash bags.
It turned out very focused considering that it was through a bag.

These were taken by Monte Harms's brother who
lives in California.
He took separate photos, and then put them together
to make an artistic view of beginning,
middle, and end.

Pa made a special box to be able to view
without hurting our eyes.
First, cut the top of the box off.
Put heavey tape over one side.
Then put a safety pin hole in the tape.
Face AWAY from the sun,
and look in the box, and this is
what you can see.
The light shines in the way the sun is sending it.
This is the beginning of the eclipse at 7:33 PM
