She passed away on April 7, 2012 at around 2:00 AM, and then was
cremated and then the internment was planned at a time all her children
could attend.
Joan Marguerite Mott was born
on March 22, 1929
She was 83
Joan was buried at the Highland Cemetery.
Everyone met there.
The Internment (funeral) was held
at the grave site.
There were about 25 people total,
all family members.
This is the plot which was prepared before hand.
A covering was placed over the hole.
Those who brought flowers, or had
them delivered (a local florist brought some)
had them placed at the head of the plot.
This is everyone who was there.
It was a rainy day. It rained all morning,
but cleared up enough for the funeral.
Pa said the rain was very appropriate in the
sense that the heavens were shedding tears
at the loss of Joan.
Pa was the officiator.
He welcomed everyone who came,
and announced the order of the program
We began with prayer,
Janice Meier read the life history.
Jane lead the group in singing
"How Great Thou Art"
Mary Grine was in charge of placing the ashes.
Mary wore a fancy hat and brought rose petals
in stating that she was celebrating her mother.
She wore the hat because her mother loved to celebrate,
and the rose petals represented what Mary
won as a prize (a dozen roses) in honor of her mother.
The box had the work Faith written on it.
It was hard for Mary to let go of the box, and
so Pa helped her.
Joni's contribution to the ceremony was closing
farewell comments.
One of the things Joni mentioned was about the
rain all morning. There was a rainbow in the sky.
Joni mentioned that every time we see a rainbow,
remember mother.
(note: on our way home, we saw two more rainbows,
and we felt it was a sign telling us Joan was
watching us in our travels home,
so we would get there safely.)
Pa said the Dedicatory Prayer
a dedication of the Grave site.
Joan was buried next to Harry Hansen,
her husband whom she loved so much,
and was married to for 20 years.
Pa took a moment when everyone else
had left, and dedicated this grave site as well.
Michelle put the rose petals into the box with the ashes.
Mary wanted the roses to be buried with her mother.
Ronnie Hansen is comforting Mary.
Michelle giving her aunt Mary a hug.
Orion saw how Mary was so distraught, and went
to give her a hug too.
Later, Ma found him in the truck crying,
because he was so sad at everyone being sad.
Orion only met Joan Mott Hansen,
his great grandmother,
one time
at the age of 2 years old.
He does not remember her.
People said that they were touched
at Orion's response for a child to
give comfort when he saw it was needed.
Also In attendance were Joan's sisters,
Winnie and Daisey.
Ronnie Hansen and his daughter,
with his girl friend and her two kids.
It was a very hearfelt funeral, and
all Joan's children had a part in it.
We think she would have been so proud.
Joan's freshly placed grave site.
While we were there at the same cemetery,
Pa, Ma and Orion visited some other
grave sites.
Genevieve is Joan's sister.
This is the grave site of Pa's grandpa and grandma Mott,
Joan's and Genevieve's parents.
