Remenising

While we were in Kansas, we were able to visit some sites, and
Remenising some of the places that Joan Mott Hansen lived
and where Pa played as a child.
Our first stop was in Manter, Kansas.
This is the faming community where
Joan Mott was born in 1929.
The wheat and corn fields and hay fields
are what Joan commonly saw as she was
growing up.  Joan was born with the help
of a midwife
in a farm house in the country near Manter.

This is the high school where Joan and Donald Jerry Martin
met.  Donald Jerry was older because he went to serve in the
WWII war, and when he returned,
they allowed him to finish his high school education.
Joan was about 17 and Donald Jerry was about 21.
a closer look of the statues.

This monument in the fron of the high school.
The bottom is a trough where horses
were tied, and drank water.

This is the Church of Christ where Joan went to church
with her family.

This is the house where Joan Mott and Donald Jerry Martin
were married in a day before their graduation.
They both graduated in the same class.
This house is where the preacher of the Methodist church lived.
The church is right next door on the left. (not in the photo)
Donald Jerry Martin attended the Methodist church.
After they were married, Joan went to the Methodist church as well.
The newspaper article announcing the marriage.
They were married on May 14, 1947 at 2 P.M.
This is a page out of Joan's bible.
In it a marriage record written in her own writing.
Wednesday, Married
Thursday,  Graduated from high school and then
  Enrolled in Southwestern College.
Friday,  Class day exercises.
Saturday, left for Raton, New Mexico to start a new life.
This is the place where Pa's Grandpa and Grandma Mott
owned a farm of 1000 acres.  They farmed wheat.
Pa loves it here and has the best of memories.
There is no evedince of a house here anymore.
It is owned by someone else now because Pa's
grandparents are no longer living.

This stream was right in back of the trees.
Pa remembers playing in it all the time when
he was around six years old.
One time, Pa was playing with the minnows and decided
he wanted some for pets.  He put some in his pocket,
and ran to the house as fast as he could.
He filled up the bath tub, and then put the minnows in the water.
They were dead.
We thought it was a funny story.
Things a six year old boy would do.
