The Western Roundup

We were planning to go to a wildlife western dinner and show,
called Wildlife West.
It was on a Saturday night,
and reservations were made in advance.
Orion had this little cowboy hat that has been
setting on the shelf for years.  He decided that
tonight would be a perfect night to wear it.
But when Pa saw Orion in his hat, he thought
he had better do something about it.

We we all hopped in the truck, and drove over
for a quick trip to Western Warehouse to
get new hats.  All the kids got a new hat.
Orion's hat was about $22 and the twins
got matching felt  hats in different colors
that were $25 each.
Orion and Payson were playing like they were
driving a stage coach.
This is the comparison of size that Orion
has in hats.  The newer one fits him perfectly,
and he looks handsome in it as well.
We are here.  It is about a 45 minute drive east of Albuquerque.
It has 122 acres of wildlife animals to see,
but we went too late, and did not get to
see the animals since the exhibit was
closed by the time we got there.
After we checked in, and paid for the dinner and show,
everyone got to board a trailer which was pulled
by a tractor.

give the donkey some carrots.

Before the chuck wagon dinner,
we saw a bird show by this trainer with a falcon.

Everyone is sitting down for the dinner.
It was definitely not fancy,
but it was a western type dinner.

The dinner had barbecued pork or beef (your choice)
barbecued beans, applesauce, a roll, and
a baked potato with butter and sour cream.
We had lemomade to drink.
Just as the dinner was finishing up,
there was a puppet show/fundraiser
with wild life puppets.  It was a show
promoting the expense of having the animal
exhibit, and the puppets were asking for
donations to help support it.
Then we saw a band play for us some
western songs.  It was fun see and hear them play.
Our group watching the band.
Guess who has the most difficult time watching?
Yup.....the littlest ones.
But they did watch and they enjoyed most of it.
The band must have known that some people
would just love to dance, so they pointed out
a small cement patch to their right where
anyone could come to the front and dance.
After a couple of songs, we decided to take them up
on the offer.  We were the first to go to the front
and dance to the music.
Balancing is one way to dance I guess.
Orion got a couple of ladies from the audience
who were perfect strangers, and asked them to dance.
How could anyone resist a handsome cowboy?
